Many things make movies scary. However, it is very easy for
some people to say that one thing is scary and another thing isn’t scary. I
never thought the movie was particularly scary but, it is easy to see how or
why people in the movie theater would find Psycho to be scary. For something to
be really scary it needs to relate to the people. If something is oddly similar
to someone’s real life experience it is going to freak them out. If it is
anyway relatable to the person, the viewer is going to be afraid of what they
are watching. Also, if there is something that jumps out at you it will scare
someone. It is all about the surroundings and what is going on. Most of the
scaring comes from what happens, and how the viewer sees it. If the viewer is
scared of ghosts, a paranormal movie will scare them. But if someone is scared
of killings and freaking murderers, then they will be afraid of that and not
the ghosts.
Can you discuss how the director was able to create scary situations using camera angles, music, lighting, etc?! And what makes something scary in the first place? You were also supposed to add images/video to your post!
ReplyDeleteI agree with your points that this movie was not necessarily leaning towards the side of a horror film, but I think that Mr. Hitchcock really just made a film that made the audience uncomfortable. This is believed to be true because even the smallest things that don't seem like a big deal to a modern audience (like the flushing of a toilet) were revolutionary things to display on a screen for the given time period. There were so many different specific scenes that were creepy, and just made the viewer uncomfortable, and that, as we believe, was the goal of Hitchcock. There was one particular scene that I touched on in my own blog post where there was a hawk or some type of a bird in the background of the screen. The director uses symbolism to show that the characters in the play are constantly subject to attack by predators. Overall, well done with the blog post, Todd. Keep up the great work
