There will be blood
In the movie there will be blood, the use of music is integral to the mood of the movie. For the first ~15 minutes of the movie there is no dialogue. Jonny Greenwood put together a series of orchestral pieces that creates the mood for the movie. It's eerie music sets a stressful tone that adds to the drama of the film. Sometimes the music will indicate that something bad will happen, but it doesn't. I think this is because of the person in the shot (usually Daniel) feeling stressed, or afraid. This is coupled with dramatic low angle shots to show the power of Daniel. In this movie, Daniel is a ruthless man who will do anything to succeed in his business. He does not have regard for anyone but himself. He even goes as far as to kill two men in his quest for power. In this case I think Daniel is the villain, Buying up poor ranchers land and exploiting them. This is not unlike big oil companies today. Daniel feels that he is a cut above the rest of the people in his life, and therefore should have final say in anything that happens. He is a violent man who puts money before the lives of those around him, including his own adopted son. This is shown when H.W tries to go to mexico to start his own oil company. Daniel disowned him over it, proving that his business is more important to him than family.
