In the Film, There
Will Be Blood, there isn’t that much a connection between HW and Daniel. I
was surprised to see how people could their power in different ways. But even
for Daniel, he uses his power to kind of manipulate HW in thinking that he is
his son. After all, they really don’t have an actual relationship with one
another due to the fact that Daniel isn’t actually HW’s biological father which
who actually died due to an incident at the mine. His purpose for taking HW was
that he would be able to make a successful business by using HW’s adorable
expressions of being a child to help him become rich. No matter what happens to
HW, Daniel still loves HW after the incident that happened with the explosion
of the mining derrick and HW then became deaf afterwards. Daniel did try to go
to Eli who is a healer, but who which was no help at all and then continues to use
HW for his selfish desire. It really makes me think that Daniel doesn’t actually
have a care in the world for what to HW. No matter at what cost, HW would have
to learn sign language and later on learn about truth about what happened in
the past. Later in the film, Daniel becomes obsessed with power and then tells
HW what actually happened. This all leads to Daniel who would later become
angry with himself for what happened between them and then decides to kill Eli
who is the brother of the HW’s father.
Brian, 1) proofread! 2) I agree with you that Daniel is very angry with how he feels he had to treat HW at the end, and his anger and vengeance is most definitely unloaded on his only real "enemy" on earth, Eli. However, I question whether Daniel's "love" for HW was artificial. I think he truly cared for him, and i feel that it pained him greatly to send him off to SF. His behavior towards Henry, Standard Oil, and Eli all come from his inner anger and resentment for what happened to HW. Just my thoughts...
